Happy New Year!!
Hope you made it through the festive season with friends and family and lots of joy!
With the new year started just a few days ago, I’ve seen many people starting good year resolutions. To be honest, I was tempted myself. Tempted to make a whole list of things I was going to do this year. But my experience is that 9 out of 10 fail.
So I never made that list…
But if you know me a little, you know I can’t just sit around waiting for things to happen. I have plans, and I’m sure you do too. So today I just want to share my way of kickstarting 2017. Not the only way, not the perfect way, just my way. I hope it somehow inspires you to start the year right and make 2017 a wonderful success.
My very first thing I did was to NOT start the new year on New Year’s Day, but one day later 😋. Just to break that expectation of ‘from today on everything will be better’. I believe you can start any new habit and change at any moment, not only of the first of Jan.
Start your year with a Juicing Detox
Last year I did Jason Vale’s 7 Lbs in 7 Days: The Juice Master Diet. It wasn’t so much a diet or loosing weight thing for me, I focused much more on the detoxing. Getting all the unhealthy food out of my system. Although we were eating quite healthy already, I wanted to make it even more radical.
It was a wonderful experience. The first few days were tough. Really tough. My coffee addiction was much stronger than I ever thought. It gave me a massive head ache. But over the year it has paid off big time. The first week I lost may be 3 kilos, but over the year I lost 15, just by eating more raw and natural products!!
This year I’m in again. I started on the 2nd of January, so I’m in the middle of coffee withdrawal – auch. But I love it! I’m definitely not in for weight loss, but 2 or 3 kg’s will do ;-).
Here are some benefits:
♥︎ You’ll feel extremely fit and healthy (after day 3 and coffee detox headaches :).
♥︎ With the juicing you’re giving your digestion system a good rest for 7 days.
♥︎ It helps clean out you body from all the junk that goes in.
♥︎ You taste buds will get a serious reboot … really! It made me LOVE my salads!!
Oh, and if you like to watch a movie about juicing. I watched Fat, Sick and Nearly Dead the night before I started! Inspiring!
After these seven days I’m leaving milk, coffee and everything refined out of my system.
Detoxing my brain this year
This year I added to the detox my brain detox. I finally got a hold of Carolyn Leafs book Switch On Your Brain: The Key to Peak Happiness, Thinking, and Health. It’s absolutely mind boggeling to see how God created our brains and how we have control over them.
I noticed some funny thinking patterns in my brain that influenced my well being. Some fear, some negative thoughts, some thoughts I didn’t know what to do with. Reading her book is such a great motivation to do what God said: Renew your mind (Romans 12:2) and Take your thoughts captive (2 Cor. 10:5)
Did you know that every negative thought becomes a type of broccoli tree in your brain. It actually takes up space and literally makes you sick. But with healthy thinking – truth – you can pull them out and plant healthy trees. The testimonies of the people Carolyn Leaf worked with are very inspiring!
So the next 21 days I’ll be killing trees in my brain! And most likely never stop after that, because it is an ongoing project, not something that you do once and for all. What I do hope is that it leaves me with a habit of thinking right. And rejecting thoughts that are damaging to me and my health.
One Word for the year
The third thing I’ve been doing for a couple of years now is to find One Word for the next year. I was inspired by the book One Word That Will Change Your Life. Over the past few years I had words like Abide, Transition and Pure.
In November last year, I was meditating and going over my word for the year, the word Pure. I had color coded all the words ‘pure’ and ‘heart’ in my Bible red. Let me be honest and say I cheated for some of the old testament books, by using search app, but the rest I actually red through completely :p.
As I looked through my color coded Bible, I saw that the word pure, very often, was related to the word ‘speak’. Then I asked ABBA: if I now really want to be pure, I know I need to work on my heart and attitude, but what then, and how? And I heard the phrase: Speak Truth! So here’s my mission for 2017.
First of all to actually obey Him and start speaking the truth, which I found terribly hard to do, if only for the fear of hurting people. But then also to find all bible verses related to speaking the truth, so that I can learn more and apply that to my life.
The very first verse I found in Ephesians 4:29 says: Let no corrupt word proceed out of your mouth, but what is good for necessary edification, that it may impart grace to the hearers.
I’m making all the references of ‘speaking truth’ blue! Something new I’m doing this year is adding the key verses into my Life Journal in a special book I added to it. With my notes and personal revelations with it!
With these three things I know I’m starting my year well. No, even better, I’ll be smashing it! And so can you :-).
Ps. How did you start your New Year? Would love to hear from you!
